Oklahoma City Thunder at San Antonio Spurs
A classic matchup of the exceptional talent of Durant and Westbrook vs. the discipline of the Spurs. The Spurs are favored by a largish 6½ points. I am sure the Thunder will win at least one blowout but the Spurs have a lot of talent and a superior system that I think will carry them through this series. For game 1 I'll go with the home team to make a statement and give the points.

NBA Point Spread Predictions April 29th, 2016

The Celtics lackluster effort made me a loser yesterday, dropping my playoff record to 19-20 (-$300) and my season record to 140-138-3 ($-980). Miami Heat at Charlotte Hornets
Charlotte has now won three in a row and have blown out Miami twice at Charlotte, the site of tonight's game. I think Dwayne Wade will take over this game and I'm taking the Heat and the 2 points.

Toronto Raptors at Indiana Pacers
When I watch these two teams play I always come away thinking the Pacers are the better team. I'll take the Pacers giving 2 points to force a game 7 in Toronto.

Los Angeles Clippers at Portland Trailblazers
The injured Clippers could not hang with the Trailblazers in Los Angeles and now head to Portland. I expect the Blazers to win but 10 points seems a little much so give me the Clippers taking the 10.

Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics
The home team has won every game in this series but it looks as if the Hawks have found their shooting touch. I think teams of role players like these two play better at home and will take the Celtics and the 2 points.

As much as I like the Clippers, the injuries to Chris Paul and Blake Griffin is a huge blow to a team that had title aspirations. The home team has won all 4 games in this series but I'll pick the streak to end and take the road Trailblazers giving 2½ points.

Houston Rockets at Golden State Warriors
The Warriors easily won game 4 without Stephen Curry, who will miss at least the next 2 weeks. Can the Rockets mount any kind of effort? I think they can and while I like the Warriors to win and close out the series I will take the Rockets and the 9 points.

The Hawks seem to have the better players but something is missing. The Celtics are banged up but playing more as a team. I will go with the home team in this game and the the Hawks talent giving the 7 points.

Charlotte blew out Miami on Saturday and now have a chance to even the series at home tonight. I've been picking the Heat all series and will pick them one more time since I still think they are the better playoff team and I am still getting 2½ points.

Oklahoma City Thunder at Dallas Mavericks
The Thunder barely covered the 9 point spread in Dallas on Saturday and now try to close out the series at home. I think the Mavericks are exhausted and it will be a Thunder cakewalk. I'll take OKC and give the Mavs the 13½ points.

Los Angeles Clippers at Portland Trailblazers
The Clippers should have won Saturday's game in Portland but were undone by DeAndre Jordan's failure to make free throws. I expect the Clippers to make the free throw shooting a non-factor by getting a big lead and will give the Blazers the 3 points.

Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons
The games in this series have all been close but the Cavaliers have steadily shown they are clearly the better team. The line is a smallish 6½ points and I will take the Cavaliers to cover.

Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics
The Celtics blew out the Hawks on Friday behind Isiah Thomas's 42 points. I expect the Hawks to find a answer to Thomas today and will take the Hawks plus the 2 points.

San Antonio Spurs at Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizzlies finally covered on Friday night but I'm picking the Spurs to finish the series with an exclamation point and will lay the 13 points.

Golden State Warriors at Houston Rockets
Stephen Curry is back and the Warriors have something to prove after their Thursday loss. I like the Warriors to cover the 9 point spread and reestablish control of the series.

I expect the Pacers best effort but I also think the Raptors have them figured out and will not relax after losing game on of this series. I'll take the Raptors and give the 1½ points.

Miami Heat at Charlotte Hornets
Charlotte played quite well on Wednesday and still lost by double digits. The Heat have enough veterans to understand the value of finishing off series. I expect the Hornets role players to play better as the series moves to Charlotte but the Heat role players are primarily defensive and shouldn't be effected too much by being on the road. Give me the Heat taking the 2½ points.

Oklahoma City Thunder at Dallas Mavericks
Can Dallas take a second game? It's possible but entirely up to the Thunder who I think are still embarrassed by their game 2 loss to an undermanned Mavericks team. I'm looking for a double digit win and will take the Thunder giving 9.

Los Angeles Clippers at Portland Trailblazers
I expect the Clippers to relax after two home blowout wins but they are still on too much of a roll for me not to pick them when they are only giving 1½ points.

Both the Rockets and Raptors covered as underdogs while the Thunder continued their inconsistent play with another big win to get me my second straight 3-0 day. The Celtics have lost the first 2 games and are the favorites because they are at home? I think the Hawks have it figured out and will take Atlanta and the 3 points.

San Antonio Spurs at Memphis Grizzlies
The Spurs have won the first two games in this series by over 20 points apiece and are now only an 11½ point favorite. I'll take Goliath and give the points.

Without Stephen Curry for the second game in a row I expect the Rockets to have a better idea how to handle the Warriors and benefit from a friendly home crownd. I'll take the Rockets and the 5½ points.

Oklahoma City Thunder at Dallas Mavericks
I expect the Thunder to come out with a lot of energy to prove that Monday's loss was the flukiest of flukes. The Thunder are far too talented for the Mavs so I will give the 8½ points.

Can the Pistons shoot as good as they did on Sunday? I say no. Will the Cavaliers big 3 produce like they did Sunday? I say no but the Cavaliers will get more bench production and the Pistons have given their best shot so I'll take the Cavs and give the 10 points.

Charlotte Hornets at Miami Heat
The Heat blew out the Hornets on Sunday but the spread hasn't moved off the Heat by 4½. I have to think the Heat will benefit more from 2 days off than the Hornets having the 2 days to make adjustments and will once again take the Heat giving 4½ points.

Portland Trailblazers at Los Angeles Clippers
This is anothe game where the line hasn;t moves despite a Sunday game 1 blowout. I again like the idea of the Clippers having 2 days off and will give the 8½ points.

The Grizzlies lost by 32 on Sunday but they hung close for the first half. Unlike the undisciplined Thunder (that lost to the Mavericks yesterday) I can't see the Spurs taking their foot off the throat and will give the amazingly large 18½ points.

Despite all the talk of the Cavaliers poor chemistry I expect them to come out firing on all cylinders and blow out the Pistons who will have a number of players in their first playoff game. I'll take the Cavaliers giving the 10½ points.

Charlotte Hornets at Miami Heat
Charlotte has been good against the Heat this season but I can't see them winning this game unless Dwayne Wade has an injury. I like the Heat to pull away late and will lay the 4½ points.

Memphis Grizzlies at San Antonio Spurs
Will the Spurs feel the need to match the Thunder and Warriors blowouts yesterday or will they settle for keeping the game under control. I vote for the latter and expect the Grizzlies to give this game their best effort before folding so give me the Grizzlies and the 15½ points.

Portland Trailblazers at Los Angeles Clippers
This is a tough game to get a read on. I really like the Clippers but think 8½ points is too many so give me the Trailblazers to keep the game close.

This 1-8 matchup is a rematch of last year's Western Conference Finals which was won by the Warriors in 5 games. I expect the Warriors to start the playoffs on a high note and will give 13 to the Rockets.

Boston Celtics at Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks quietly came on strong at the end of the season while the Celtics struggled a bit. I like the Hawks to take this first game and cover the 5½ point spread.

Dallas Mavericks at Oklahoma City Thunder
The Mavericks are injured and limped into the playoffs while the Thunder have given up more 4th quarter leads than any other team. I think 11½ is too many points for the Mavericks given their grind it out style of play and will take the Mavericks and the points.

The Hornets have slip tot he sixth playoff spot with yesterdays loss to the Wizards and head to Boston for a late season back to back. I like the Celtics to give a big effort in an attempt to get home court for the first round of the playoffs and will give the 7½ points to the Hornets.

Houston Rockets at Minnesota Timberwolves
On paper the Rockets should easily win since they are fighting for a playoff spot while the Timberwolves are at the end of yet another losing season. I see a young Timberwolves team that is playing exceptionally hard down the stretch and like them getting the 3 points against the inconsistent but talented Rockets.

Golden State Warriors at San Antonio Spurs
The Warriors are getting 5 points heading into San Antonio on the second half of a back to back. Logic says to take the Spurs since they easily beat the Warriors in their last meeting in San Antonio and have not lost a game at home this year. I think if you can get 5 points with a 71 win team you should take it so my pick is the Warriors plus the 5 points.

While the trailblazers managed to cover their game against the Celtics, the Thunder barely won against a Clippers team resting 3 of their starters, leaving me with a split.
